FAQs
Does Medicare and Private Insurance cover home care services?
While Medicare provides coverage for hospital stays (Part A), medical equipment (Part B), and medications (Part D), it does not include home care services. In specific instances, Medicare may cover skilled care services such as catheterization, wound care, and certain medications. However, for tasks like personal hygiene, meal preparation, household chores, and running errands, Medicare does not extend coverage for assistance with these activities of daily living.
Is home care is more expensive than moving your loved ones into a facility?
Certainly, in-home personal care services come with associated costs, but they offer far more flexibility compared to those linked with relocating to a nursing facility. The cost of home care services is often much lower than that of facility care due to the convenience and the significance of remaining in one's own home.
What home care services are only needed after my parent or loved one has a bad accident?
Most individuals desire independence, especially as they grow older. There is a common misconception that having a caregiver will result in a loss of independence. However, a caregiver can actually enhance independence by preventing accidents and improving safety and quality of life. Many elderly people living alone may not be as alert as they once were, making them vulnerable to accidents. Having a caregiver can significantly reduce the risks of accidents, serious injuries, and debilitating conditions, ultimately enhancing safety and quality of life. In cases where cognitive issues are present, a trained personal care aide can assist individuals in medication reminders and monitoring safety measures like checking stoves, securing doors, preventing wandering, and managing chronic diseases such as Alzheimer's. Unfortunately, many families only consider hiring an aide when the situation becomes extremely hazardous or life-threatening.
Does a home care agency provide the same level of care that a nursing facility?
At Meaningful Foundations Home Care, LLC, and in line with most other home care agencies, we offer more personalized, attentive care compared to what nursing homes typically provide. In a nursing facility, a single nursing assistant may be responsible for 5 to 10 individuals simultaneously, making it challenging to deliver specialized personal care to each individual effectively. In-home caregivers offer round-the-clock monitoring of medications and vital signs. With an in-home care aide assigned to one patient at a time, they can provide focused, attentive care, interaction, and dedicated attention to each individual.
Are home care services are a replacement for family and friends?
This misconception is completely inaccurate. When a caregiver is involved, it enables family and friends to simply fulfill their roles as loved ones. By having a home care aide, it can alleviate stress and provide opportunities for occasional breaks from caring for a parent or relative. Caregivers offer respite care, which helps loved ones restore balance in their lives and avoid feeling overwhelmed from the mental, physical, and emotional strains of overexertion.
I am not sure what type of assistance I need. Can you advise me?
Our Director of Nursing and Director of Care personally meet with every client before starting care. During the meeting, they evaluate your individual requirements, living situation, and preferences to assist in determining the type and level of support needed, as well as matching you with the most suitable caregiver.
